Oman Sail operates on the principle that Oman’s natural maritime landscape is one of its most valuable assets. In 2025, we embedded sustainability into the core of all our event operations and community outreach. Our initiatives are designed to protect biodiversity while fostering a national culture of environmental responsibility.

1. Precious Plastic, Muscat

Oman’s first educational plastic recycling experience and learn how waste can be transformed into something valuable. As part of the global Precious Plastic movement, this 1-hour, interactive eco activity brings together people, machines and knowledge to turn everyday plastic waste into new products.

2. Clean Regattas

Oman Sail actively incorporates sustainability into its sporting calendar by partnering with Sailors for the Sea to host and certify Clean Regattas across the Sultanate of Oman. These events prioritize marine conservation, waste reduction, and community engagement.

3. Green Fins

SeaOman, the marine experience provider operated by Oman Sail, is Oman's first digital member of Green Fins. This globally recognised initiative, led by The Reef-World Foundation and the UN Environment Programme, assesses and trains marine tourism operators to adopt sustainable diving and snorkeling practices that protect fragile coral reefs.

4. Beach Cleanup Initiatives

Oman Sail actively champions coastal conservation by hosting regular beach and marina clean-up events across the Sultanate. These initiatives focus on removing single-use plastics and abandoned fishing nets, which are highly dangerous to local marine life, such as endangered sea turtles.

The Most Nationalities Collecting Litter

Under supervision by an adjudicator from Guinness World Records™, participants at the Youth Sailing World Championships, including sailors, Oman Sail officials, staff at Barceló Mussanah Resort and members from the OMRAN Group set a new record on 15 December 2021 with 73 nationalities collecting over 344kg of litter at Mussanah public beach.

Largest Sentence Crafted from Plastic Bottle Caps

Cheltenham Muscat School and Oman Sail set a Guinness World Record for the largest plastic bottle sentence on 5 December 2023, using 32,316 plastic bottles to spell out "Project Earthlings has launched from Oman!" - the largest letter being ‘O’ in Oman, comprising 1,613 plastic bottles - emphasising the community's focus on reducing plastic waste.
